MRS. SLOAN

As a St. Cecilia alumna, I have a deep respect for the opportunity Catholic schools represent since I went to St. Cecilia. I'm honored to be a part of students' development and educational journey.  The 2015-16 school year is my 5th year as a kindergarten teacher. I graduated from Iowa State in 2010 with a degree in elementary education with endorsements in English/language arts, reading & am currently working towards my Master's degree.

Founded in 1925, our school strives to fulfill our mission statement: in partnership with families, Saint Cecilia School creates a Catholic Christian community that stimulates individual academic excellence while promoting cultural and spiritual awareness in a disciplined, safe environment.

ST. CECILIA

Kindergarten was created by Frederich Froebel in 1837 in Germany. His educational philosophy stressed creativity and play to nurture young children. Though times and curriculums have changed, this emphasis on nurturing and celebrating individual development remains a hallmark of our educational experience today.

KINDERGARTEN

St. Cecilia uses the Benchmark Literacy program. Benchmark Literacy follows a workshop format with large group and small group instruction each day. Within the program, there is instruction over essential components of literacy including: phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, reading comprehension, reading strategies, and writing.
